December '09!

So for those of you who aren't aware, i've been having a pretty hectic December '09 :)
granted, i've been working from 8:30am - 4:00pm Mon-Fri (urg), But i complain not, because with work comes moola $$$ cha-ching :)
On Friday the 4th of December, Cape Town hosted the draw for the FIFA World Cup, so my sister and i went with a couple of peeps and let me tell you it was HECTIC. Never been that close to so many people in my entire life, and thats saying something seeing as how i've been to a couple of Rock concerts. but yeah, it was all in the name of fun :)

Earlier this year, it was announced that The Killers were coming to South Africa, and i wanted to go, but i was kinda on the fence seeing as the tickets went up to like R500 and something bucks, AND not to mention the concert was to be held in Paarl of all freaking places.
But anyway, like a week before the concert, i decided to be a 'Yes girl', channeling Jim Carrey and what not, so i went ahead and bought a ticket, thinking i deserved some reward for working so hard at university whole year.
Like the day before i only fetched my ticketand organised lifts and foodstuffs etc. Can i just say, lack of time is my specialty. Apparently, inspiration and good decision making on my part arises when im pressed for time, ha go figure.
Anyway, so we end up arriving @ the venue @ like 12:30, very early seeing as the doors opened only @ 4:00pm, and the opening band (Zebra&Giraffe) would only go on @ 7:30pm :P
In the end, we ended up having a FANTASTIC time. They, along with Z&G, were such good performers man. Probably the best concert Cape Town, if not South Africa, has seen. I might be biased seeing as how my 4 friends and i happened to accidentally hang out with two of the Z&G members after the concert, which was just too cool! they invited us to come see them and The Dirty Skirts perform @ Wynberg Boys High School the next sat as part of the new Sunshine Saturdays concert series CT is hosting, which i ended up going to and having yet another fab weekend.

December 14 was my 20th birthday, ended up just hanging out with my sister & her friend, as well as 2 of my awesome friends Lubi and Tarha. They dragged me, kicking and screaming to go and watch Paranormal Activity with them. What a STUPID idea! im a seriously over-paranoid person, and now i can't sleep. so yeah, thanks guys!

December 16 is Reconciliation Day in SA, but it was also my cousin Saajidah's wedding day :) and she looked so beautiful, congrats to her. And to her new hubby Reza, welcome to the family :)

Next week my family and i are off to the gorgeous Sun City, havent been there since i was like 5. Lets see if its as cool as my then 5-year old brain remembers :)

I trust that you all are also enjoying your holidays and looking forward to the festivities. Do'nt go broke or develop liver cancer.  Have a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and all that jazz.
Lets all send 2009 out with a bang and welcome in the New Year which promises real excitement for SA with the Football World Cup being held here.

Looking forward to all the future has to offer!

bye for now :)

The Legend

As we all know, on the 25th of June 2009, the world lost the greatest performer of all time, the man, the moonwalker, the legend, Mr Michael Joseph Jackson.
On Tuesday they 03 November 2009, i went to see This Is It for the first time for a girls' night out.

Man that was awesome! Some of you might have seen my Facebook status the next day that read:
"If ur a fan of MJ; If u like his music; if u like music in general; if u love concerts (like me); or if u like seeing how things work, This Is It is a must see! U'll b dancing in ur seat and singing along! We love u MJ!" (Facebook:http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=664852605&ref=profile)  (Twitter:http://twitter.com/Rasheeda_S)

And im proud to say that I still think that. It was truly wonderful to see him in his element, trying to entertain the world, while being such a humbled and grateful person, making jokes with the people behind the scenes. It was nice to see that side of him, to see how he did his thing, and i truly think that everyone who has any opinion on Michael Jackson should go see this film.
As i sat in my seat, I couldn't help but dance in my seat and sing along with to the words of my first Michael song Billie Jean, and my personal favorites Black Or White, and The Way You Make Me Feel, amongst others like Suzie Got Your Number and  Man In The Mirror, and i did it loudly  and proudly! It truly was like i was at a concert which was fantastic because i love concerts and i wish that i could have seen him live to Rock With You or see him perform Smooth Criminal because i'm that type of person who who loves going to concerts, even if i don't particularly like the artist, like 50c for example, (no offense to him or his fans), i will go just for the environment, for the sheer joy that comes with listening to music, something that everyone of us can relate to.

My final words upon this whole Michael fiasco is yes its sad that he died because he was such a fantastic performer, and if you think about it, we're all just living to entertain ourselves. Its also sad to think that he felt alone when the world abandoned him, its as if they we were trying to mirror the words of They Don't Really Care About Us because in his time of need we did abandon him, especially since he previously asked us Will You Be There. I think we were too quick to judge this man, instead of telling him You Are Not Alone. And now its too late for us to tell him that You Rock My World! He tried to unite us with songs like Heal The World and to make us more aware of global warming and wars with Earth Song. Instead what actually united us was his sudden death. I think we all felt guilty for abandoning him, and now the entire world is trying to make up for that by buying his music and going to see this film, putting up his picture everywhere, reliving concerts and moments that remind us of him, all in the attempt to hold onto his memory.

Yes its sad that now the studio bosses are trying to milk every last penny from him, and lets face it, looking at his record since the whole child molesting scandal, he wasn't exactly raking in the millions. But now the man is dead, suddenly sales are sky-rocketing. He has the number 1 selling album of all time for Thriller and rightly deserved! When he died, Google was flooded with searches of him. Google China even crashed at the sheer amount of all the Michael Jackson searches, downloads and shopping for Michael Jackson merchandise.

I know that personally, when it comes to the HIstory that is Michael Jackson, I Just Can't Stop Loving You, and some of us will always ask Why he left us so early. Haters can just Beat It, because I will continue to uphold the memory of this late legend, and I encourage everyone to see this movie and to do the same.

I doubt the world will ever see another person as great as he was, and may his music live on forever.

Rest in peace Michael, the epitome and ultimate King of Pop. We will love you forever.
